Description
The COBI train collection continues to grow! Another historical railway wagon in 1:35 scale is being added to the range. This is a legendary dining car of the famous Orient Express, known for the armistice in Compiègne. The car is one of the most important symbols of both World Wars, but is also inextricably linked to railways, luxury, and good style.
After France's complete defeat in the 1940 campaign, the Germans found the car and forced the defeated to sign an armistice there. This only highlights how much the roles had reversed since the first armistice. On June 22, 1940, a German-French armistice was signed, after which the car was transported to Berlin as an exceptionally valuable war trophy that shaped German morale and was a symbol of advantage over France. It stood as a victory monument in front of the Berlin Cathedral.
With a length of almost 60 centimeters, the wagon is a complete novelty in COBI's train series. Behind its profiled sides lies a perfectly reproduced interior, which is clearly visible after simply removing the roof. The mentioned sides are covered with building bricks featuring a wood structure and prints, making the car look exactly like the original. The gold prints show the logo of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits above the windows, the car number, and an extensive slogan. The car features opening doors on the sides, on the end walls in the corridors, and inside between the successive compartments. The interior furnishings of the car are the same as in June 1940. The set includes two figures representing the two sides that signed the armistice. On the German side, it is Wilhelm Keitel, and on the French side, Charles Huntziger.
The car comes with five track elements and a profiled embankment bearing the name of the set.
In 1944, the car was moved to the area of Crawinkel, where it was stationed in a tunnel built specifically for it. It is suspected that it was destroyed in an Allied air raid on the town of Ohrdruf in 1944 or burned down by the SS in 1945.
