The M4 Sherman was the basic American medium tank from World War II. Produced between 1942 and 1945, it became the most recognizable Allied tank! During the war it was constantly upgraded. It was equipped with a 75mm gun. Insufficient armament and a flammable engine made the Shermans initially an easy target for heavier German tanks. It was only after refining the design that the roles were reversed. A total of approximately 49,000 units of all Sherman versions were produced.
