Description
Rome conquered the world not only with the sword. Although its power is primarily associated with the legions, we must not forget what gave them a real advantage in the field: excellent, nearly impregnable fortifications and precisely planned, mobile military camps.
Build a cozy scene with a Roman tent and numerous props from the legionaries stationed there. Take the first step towards building your own modular Roman camp from COBI bricks!
Castrum Romanum, the perfection of military technology
A Roman military camp, also known as Castrum, was a carefully thought-out complex with a precisely defined floor plan that combined defensive, logistical, and administrative structures. Camps usually had a rectangular floor plan. Two main roads crossed at right angles and divided the area into quarters. In the center was the Praetorium, the commander's tent, surrounded by headquarters and warehouses. Watchtowers stood in the corners, and signposts, tents, ramparts, and defensive ditches ran along the walls.
Each legionary was assigned a place in the tent, and entire units were arranged according to hierarchy. During the height of the Empire, permanent Castra often turned into permanent settlements, forming the cores of future cities.
Tents, legionary homes
The Contubernium was the smallest organized unit of the Roman army and consisted of eight legionaries. Each Contubernium had its own tent, about three meters wide and 1.5 meters high. Ten such groups formed a Centuria.
In the camp, the Centuria tents were placed tightly together in a row. At the other end of the row was the Centurion tent – similar in size to the others.

This set contains:
- Roman legionary – armed with a realistic shield (Scutum), sword (Gladius), armor (Lorica segmentata), spear (Pilum), and helmet (Galea). After removing the armor, the figure wears a Roman tunic and a special block with a print of hanging belts (Baltea).
- Tent model for the Contubernium – add a landscape built from bricks, filled with stones, plants, and a lawn around the tent, as well as a shade-providing tree.
- Attractive accessories – The scene around the tent contains items that could have been found in a Roman camp. You will find: barrels, a shovel, a weapon rack, and armor. A pillow, a fireplace with fried fish, and even a bench. These additions give the whole thing an authentic and attractive appearance.
Every detail of this tent gives you a better understanding of the daily life of Roman legionaries – from the construction of their temporary accommodations to the room division during a march. By building this model, you not only recreate a piece of history but also become part of a larger project that culminates in a huge and faithfully reconstructed Roman camp – the heart of the military power of the Roman Empire.
