The first models had a 76.2mm L-11 cannon, which was quickly replaced by the more effective F-34 cannon. The T-34 first saw combat during the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. Despite initial logistical and training problems, the T-34 proved to be extremely effective on the battlefield. Its sloped armor, good mobility and powerful armament made it an opponent that German tanks had serious problems with. T-34 tanks also found a place in the 1st Warsaw Tank Regiment, which was part of the 1st Tadeusz Kościuszko Infantry Division. T-34 tanks with a white eagle painted on their turret fought, among other battles, at Lenino and at the Warka-Magnuszewski bridgehead.
