The F-4C Phantom II is an American, two-seat, supersonic long-range interceptor with two jet engines. Developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy, it quickly gained recognition with the US Air Force and the Marine Corps.

The F-4 Phantom II was one of the key aircraft in the Vietnam War. It began its combat deployment in December 1964 with the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron ("Triple Nickel"). Initially, both cockpit seats were occupied by pilots, but later the rear pilot was replaced by a weapons systems officer. The Phantom was a versatile aircraft used as a fighter jet, tactical bomber, and reconnaissance plane. It participated in numerous air battles with MiG aircraft, including the famous Operation Bolo.
