The Douglas™ C-47 Skytrain, also known as the “Dakota” (DACoTA, or Douglas Aircraft Company Transport Aircraft), was one of the most popular transport aircraft of World War II. Produced by the USA, it was also delivered to other Allied countries. It was based on the design of the civil version of the Douglas DC-3. The aircraft was present on virtually all fronts of World War II, and its operation continued long after its end.
