The P-47 Thunderbolt™ was a single-seat fighter and fighter-attack aircraft, the forerunner of modern multi-role fighters. The largest single-engine fighter of World War II, more than 15,000 were produced and it was the most numerous and one of the most successful US fighter aircraft. The P-47 appeared on the fronts in Europe, Africa, the Far East and the Pacific. Due to its size, the Thunderbolt was affectionately called "Jug".
